Lord Save us from Sincerity

Sincerity doesn't mean anything. A person can be sincere and be more destructive than a person who is insincere.
EDWARD ALBEE

I think I see the attraction to Santorum

He's so painfully sincere

and we've become so used to hypocrites.
so used to liars
so used to philanderers
so used to criminals

in our politicians

so when we see someone
speak sincerely
of their ideals
of their goals
of their dreams

without sarcasm
without hesitation

just the words they truly believe
from the bottom of their hearts

it reaches out to people
it makes them want to put their faith in them

because the sincerity of their belief
makes them seem more credible.

Even if what they sincerely believe
is that women belong in the home
pregnant
caring for child after child

that all the ills of society
were caused by the women's movement

that if we would just keep our knees together
that it would turn back the clocks
to that wonderful time

(aaahhhhh -for the halcyon days of Mccarthyism)

even if he sincerely believes that
God doesn't expect us to be good stewards of the earth

even if he sincerely believes that
parents will make the best education choices
for children
even though he admits that the parents themselves
didn't get the benefit of a good education

even if he sincerely believes
that only the rights of Christians should be protected

even if he's a zealot
hoping to be promoted to religious despot

his sincerity shines through
